Delivering the Stock Market to Excel

XLQ2

What is the difference?

Licensing

xlq is available in 2 different licenses xlq2 and xlq2Lite (previous licenses using the original xlq data engine will automatically function as xlq2Lite)

Starting from version 21.1 xlq2 may be installed without a license allowing you to trial xlq2Lite for around 3 weeks.

If you wish to trial all of xlq2, at any point you may in addition request a 3 week trial license by emailing support@qmatix.com

Key difference in the licensing are:

xlq2Lite:

  • A valid xlq2Lite license allows you to run any version of xlq released before the license expiry date.
  • On expiry all functionality not indicated as requiring a current license will continue to function.
  • It is possible to renew the license at discounted rates if done within 3 months of expiry, extending the license by 1,2 or 3 years.
  • If the license has expired by more than 3 months you would need to repurchase (it may be possible to request a discount).

xlq2

  • In order to use xlq2 with all xlq2 functionality a valid and up to date xlq2 license is needed.
  • If the xlq2 license is expired it will continue to function as xlq2Lite until renewed (which needs to be done within 3 months).

It is possible to upgrade a current xlq2Lite to xlq2 at any time. Cost is difference in price.

There is no downgrade option. Any downgrade should be requested and may be done at the renewal date.

Design

Compared to the original xlq engine, xlq2 has all features of xlqPlus and more. xlq and xlq2 are compatible. Everything designed with xlq will work in xlq2, and everything designed in xlq2 will work in xlq (except for xlq2 specific features).

As xlq2Lite shares the same core functionality, compatibility of common features is ensured, and workbooks may be shared between licenses, but any xlq2 features in the workbook would require xlq2 to run.

The original xlq data engine, initially designed in 2000 has been optimized and expanded upon ever since. Development of xlq2 began in 2011 as an alternative to better handle more data, faster and to lay the ground work for extra functionality difficult to implement in the existing design.

In short, data storage, memory, thread handling and processing are different. This allows xlq2 to do more simultaneously with the same data allowing for more complex processing, providing faster access, more possibilities and lays the groundwork for new features.

xlq2 was publically released in 2018 as a high end alternative to xlq.

Which should I use?

As everyone now gets to use the core xlq2 engine, choice is simplified. If you do not need any of the hundreds of extra xlq2 formulae, the extra possibilities or need support for any of the additional data sources, xlq2Lite would be the choice. If you are new to xlq and learning or only require basic functionality xlq2Lite will cover your needs, knowing that you can always expand if you need more.

    User Comments

It is so uncommon in this day and age to receive top-level, human support and I appreciate that immensely. The quality, breadth and utility of your product is incredible, but even more impressive is the level of support you provided to me, just one individual customer. You may quote me on that. Thank you.
